Each glass plate is about 6 ½” by 8 ½”. The developer is applied to one side, and then the light leaves an image. The developer does dry, but since it’s exposed, it is easy to distort the pictures.

I posted 28 of them, including several that were broken and/or had missing pieces. 3 plates were unusable. One was stuck to a paper record that rendered it unrecognizable. Two others were stored with their developer sides together. They were firmly welded together.

What is a glass negative? I've heard this a lot lately, mostly with regards to the faux Ansel Adams pics and now here. I am not a photography expert. Nice pic though.

Shasta, I agree.

Radar, After I scanned them, I had to flip most of them horizontally, due to the way they had been lain on the scanner. After I reversed them, several were improved with the "enhance" button. Others, like the steam shovel, needed a lot of a work. They were so bleached out I needed to lower the brightness and increase the contrast to see anything. Radically lowering the gamma helped a lot of the pictures.

I still have the raw scans of the negatives if you're interested in playing with them.

I haven't had a lot to blog about since the smokestack project has been completed. But I'm really excited about this Project. Mr. Barrett gave me the negatives several months ago, and I finally took some vacation time so I could process them and get them online.

I want to offer a special thank you to Duke Barrett and his sister, Liz for sharing this remarkable insight into the history of Cowell.

The first time I ever had sex was on the basketball court side of the clubhouse, and it was at a time when we had the first security guards who caught us. The second time I had sex was in the old firehouse at the west pool. I love the crossings and miss it dearly... Hock Maple Ct.

If you have something to contribute to the discussion, you are more than welcome here.

If you are only here to complain about someone else, I suggest you find a different venue.
Regards,
Cowellian

Cowellian,
I've been researching and discovered you are an Apollo fan. What I want first, is to communicate with this person, I've been tagging his many blogs, however most seem to be several years old & his My Space site hasn't been updated recently either. If you know how to contact him, do so.
My further plans are to pursue this until I'm satisfied that justice has been obtained. You seem very surreal now, exposure does that, especially when you live and blog about your own area.
If you lie with dogs, sometimes you get bit also. You've made statements and have used others works, so I don't consider you a person I would "share" my many pieces of Pacheco history with. Like I stated before, I want to communicate with Apollo, I want my great-great Aunts History of Pacheco removed from Apollos blogs, it disgusts me each time I see how he ruined my legacy. What if it were your ancestors? How would you feel? You write about others pasts, their history, what if someone tainted yours?

Hello Yvonne, thanks for writing to share your concerns. I can't speak for Apollo, so I won't even try, but I hope I can relieve some of your concerns regarding this Blog, and the Cowell Historical Society.

I do joke about "stealing" from other bloggers, but the fact of the matter is, before I take something from someone's blog, I ask first, I give attribution, and I provide a link back to the source.

I make absolutely NO money from this blog, or the historical site. It costs me money to keep it up, but I do it because I think it's important to keep our history alive.

I don't know what your plans are for the history, but if you would like to have it included with other historical documents from this area, I would be pleased to post it at http://CowellHistoricalSociety.org . Of course, I would give attribution to you and your Aunt. Please let me know if this is of interest to you.
Regards,
Cowellian
